Chonluten

Also known as: Chonluten tripeptide, Khavinson Peptide (bronchial)

Short synthetic peptide (tripeptide); Khavinson Peptide

What it is

Chonluten is a tripeptide originally derived from bronchial epithelial cells. In vitro studies in the human monocytic THP-1 cell line show that it modulates key proliferative patterns by increasing tyrosine phosphorylation of mitogen-activated cytoplasmic kinases. It inhibits tumor necrosis factor (TNF) production in monocytes exposed to pro-inflammatory lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a mechanism linked to TNF tolerance. It also inhibits LPS-stimulated expression of TNF and pro-inflammatory IL-6 in terminally differentiated THP-1 macrophages, and reduces monocyte/macrophage adhesion to activated endothelial cells (HUVECs), suggesting anti-inflammatory and anti-adhesion properties.

Class: Short synthetic peptide (tripeptide); Khavinson Peptide

What it's studied for

  • Anti-inflammatory modulation in monocytes/macrophages (in vitro) In vitro only
    • Chonluten tripeptide inhibited TNF production in LPS-exposed THP-1 monocytes and suppressed LPS-stimulated TNF and IL-6 expression in differentiated THP-1 macrophages. Reduction in monocyte adhesion to LPS-activated HUVECs was also observed. Authors conclude Chonluten acts as a natural inducer of TNF tolerance in monoc PMID 35408963 Avolio F et al., International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2022
  • Regulation of cellular proliferative activity (in vitro) In vitro only
    • Chonluten, along with four other Khavinson peptides, increased tyrosine phosphorylation of mitogen-activated cytoplasmic kinases in THP-1 cells, modulating key proliferative patterns in vitro. PMID 35408963 Avolio F et al., International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2022

Frequently asked

What is Chonluten and where does it come from?

Chonluten is a tripeptide originally derived from bronchial epithelial cells. It belongs to a family of short peptides characterised by Prof. Khavinson from 1973 onwards, known as Khavinson Peptides, which were initially isolated from animal tissues and found to be organ-specific.

What has Chonluten been studied for?

As of the reviewed literature, Chonluten has been studied only in vitro (in cell cultures). Research found it inhibited TNF production in LPS-stimulated monocytes, suppressed TNF and IL-6 expression in differentiated macrophages, reduced monocyte adhesion to activated endothelial cells, and increased tyrosine phosphorylation of mitogen-activated cytoplasmic kinases. All findings are from a single in vitro study. No human or animal studies are available in the reviewed literature.

What dose of Chonluten should I take?

I'm not a medical professional and can't recommend a protocol for you specifically. What research has shown: the only reviewed study used Chonluten in vitro (cell culture) at concentrations described as 'effective on recipient cells in culture,' but specific numeric doses are not reported in the abstract. No human dosing data exist in the reviewed literature.

Is Chonluten safe for human use?

The only reviewed study on Chonluten was conducted entirely in vitro using a cell line; no human or animal safety, toxicity, or pharmacokinetic data are available in the reviewed literature. I can't make safety claims beyond what the studies report.

Can I combine Chonluten with other peptides or compounds?

I can't recommend combining compounds — that's a prescribing decision. Here's what has been studied individually: Chonluten has only been studied in vitro; one study also tested it alongside four other Khavinson peptides (Epitalon, Vilon, Thymogen, Thymalin) in the same cell culture model, but no human combination data exist.

How is Chonluten administered?

The reviewed literature only reports use of Chonluten in vitro (incubated with cell cultures). No human administration route, injection method, or reconstitution protocol is described in the reviewed abstracts.

What anti-inflammatory effects has Chonluten shown?

In a 2022 in vitro study, Chonluten inhibited TNF production in LPS-exposed THP-1 monocytes — a mechanism linked to TNF tolerance — and suppressed both TNF and IL-6 expression in terminally differentiated THP-1 macrophages stimulated by LPS. It also reduced monocyte adhesion to LPS-activated endothelial cells. These effects were observed only in cell culture; human data are not available.

Is Chonluten approved by the FDA or any regulatory agency?

The reviewed literature does not address regulatory approval status for Chonluten in any jurisdiction. Regulatory status requires manual verification with the relevant authorities (e.g., US FDA, Health Canada).

Can Chonluten treat lung disease or bronchitis?

I can't suggest treatments for medical conditions. Please speak with a licensed healthcare provider. Note: the reviewed literature only shows in vitro anti-inflammatory effects in a monocyte/macrophage cell line; no clinical studies in lung disease or any other condition are available in the reviewed literature.

Where can I buy Chonluten?

I don't recommend vendors or sources. Please consult a licensed provider.
